Life Rewards
When your dog is doing something they enjoy, call them over to you, reward with a treat or toy and then send them back to what they find highly rewarding. That might be cueing them to go play with another dog, say ‘Hi’ to a person or to go sniff a hedge or tree.
In this way you can teach them to find these life experiences rewarding and in the long run would be able to reward their recall back to you without the need for treat or toy.
Attention Noise
An attention noise can be any noise that you teach your dog to associate with you wanting their attention. It could be a ‘click, click’ or a ‘pup, pup’ type noise.
All you have to do is make the noise in close proximity to your dog, if they look at you, immediately reward with a treat or toy. Repeat several times.
Avoid noises that startle or scare your dog.
